Joe Netherwood
Participating in the Celebration of Fine Art for the past eight years has not only been a delight to all but has allowed Joe, always dressed in his western attire, to present his icons of Western culture, both historical as well as contemporary.
Joe Netherwood’s paintings capture his love of the West, nurtured from his youth by the Saturday afternoon westerns and his TV heroes like Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy and Gene Autry. These bigger-than-life images set the stage to influence Joe’s early art.
While working as a designer and an illustrator in Philadelphia, Joe studied with members of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In meeting and talking with Joe, one realizes the presence of his great sense of humor which was honed during his five years as a professional stand-up comedian in the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest States. After visiting the Brandywine River Museum and seeing N.C. Wyeth’s classic western illustrations, Joe found his artistic inspiration to portray his love of the West.
Relocating to Arizona allowed Joe to actually be part of the West by working on ranches, cattle drives and roundups capturing the cowboys and cowgirls of today on canvas keeping alive his dream to share in the beauty of the Old West.
